On Nov. 6th I will be traveling on a political pilgrimage to the Middle East with the Council For National Interests (CNI) out of Washington, D.C. . Ten U.S. citizens have been chosen to make this trip and to talk to leaders in Lebanon, Syria, Jordan, Palestine, Israel and Egypt regarding their thoughts on the U.S. Presidential election. The idea is to talk to those who are leading the country and the opposition leaders also. This trip will be led by Ambassador Edward Peck.
For example, last year in Egypt one group interviewed the current Prime Minister Ahmed M. Nazif, Essam el-Erian, spokesperson for the Muslim Brotherhood in Cairo, as well as the Secretary General of the Arab League Amr Moussa. The most recent delegation in May 2008, crossed from Egypt into the Gaz Strip through the Rafah Crossing. they became the first international group to enter Gaza through Egypt since may 2007, When th international boycott of the Hamas government began. While in Gaza the delegation met with and interviewed Ismail Haniyeh, the current Prime Minister of the Hamas-led government.
More information regarding CNI is available at www.cnionline.com. I hope to be updating this every few days!
